Lotion Replacement

Although eating a paleo diet and staying hydrated should keep your skin from needing lotion, here is an alternative to store bough lotion.  The average store bought lotion contains glycerin.  Glycerin is the by product of lye (sodium hydroxide).  While lye is perfectly good used in soap, since it gets deactivated by the oil, glycerin does not get deactivated by anything and has a drying effect on the skin.  By putting glycerin in the lotion it makes it to where your skin will never be satisfied by the lotion and keep getting dryer so you have to use more.

Here is the average lotion ingredients:

Water, Glycerin, Stearic Acid, Mineral Oil, Glycol Stearate, Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Juice, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Extract, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Oil, Glyceryl Stearate, Cetyl Alcohol, Petrolatum, Fragrance, Dimethicone, Stearamide Amp, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Triethanolamine, Carbomer, Methylparaben, Tetrasodium Edta, Dmdm Hydantoin, Titanium Dioxide.

Most of the ingredients are unpronounceable and having a drying effect on the skin.

Instead opt for coconut oil, the cheaper and more natural lotion, instead of a bottle full of chemicals. Coconut oil is great for sunburns and dry skin.  Try it and see if you don’t like it better than “modern lotion”.
